Weekly Crop Updates

September 18, 2017

Updates for the week:

We still have Brooks Plums, similar to Italian Plums but larger and sweet.  We also have a few Italian Plums left.  The picker pictured below would be helpful in picking the plums.  There are many marked apples as well as Seckel Pears now to pick.  The apple varieties are listed on our website.  All u-pick fruit is $1/lb.  There are also some super sweet French Petite Prunes already picked for $2/lb, and some picked Bartlett Pears for $1/lb.

We are now sold out of all cherries for the season.  We will not have any peaches this year.

NOTE!!!!!  We do NOT ALLOW LADDERS and you need to pick what you can from the floor of the orchard.

***PLEASE NOTE THAT IF YOU ARE CAUGHT CLIMBING IN THE TREES, YOU WILL BE ASKED TO LEAVE THE PROPERTY IMMEDIATELY!!!

We have found a great picker that was used for cherries in the upper parts of the trees, and would be useful for plum picking as well.  Here is a link for buying them online or in stores.  They are carried in Target and Walmart and when you go to the store website and locate the item, it will tell you the location of the product at your chosen store, if available there.  They are also available on Amazon which is where this link sends you.  The look like the one pictured in the link.

The sides of the grabber on the head tend to come off so there will be Gorilla Glue here at the farm to be used to glue them on before you go out picking.  They are about $10 wherever you find them.

GO TO www.sherwoodorchards.com FOR MORE INFORMATION ABOUT PICKING.

IN OTHER WORDS,
PLEASE READ THESE TIPS BEFORE YOU COME!!!

**CASH OR CHECK ONLY!!! (We do accept WIC and Senior WIC)

NO credit or debit cards

A reminder that should we run out of fruit for picking, we will close our gate at 99W.  We may also stay closed to allow for more fruit to ripen.

Beware of the squirrel and gopher holes in the ground. They are hard to see and contribute to the uneven ground.

We cannot allow individuals with walkers or canes in the orchard as it is too treacherous with the holes and uneven ground.

This year there will be times we are closed due to fruit not being ripe or unavailable. Should we sell out of fruit, we may close the orchard early.  Please call first before you come out to prevent disappointment in finding we are closed. Some of the crops are very small this year and we will close until we have sufficient crops to pick. The phone line may be more reliable and up-to-date than the website.

Please bring containers to take your fruit home with you.

PLEASE do not come to the orchard in the afternoon if it is too hot! The orchard is really too hot to pick fruit and we discourage you from coming when the temperature is above 85 degrees in the afternoons.

PLEASE bring containers to take your fruit home in.

*NO SMOKING!!!

*NO DOGS OR PETS ALLOWED!!! Please leave them home!

*Please do not come to pick at the orchard if you use a cane or crutches.  Our grounds are uneven and it is dangerous to have you walking through the orchard.

*Absolutely NO CLIMBING on our trees.

*PLEASE DRIVE 5 MPH UP THE ROAD!

*Wear sturdy shoes- NO FLIP FLOPS, CROCS, SANDALS WITH OPEN TOES or HEELS.

*Please bring your own bags or boxes. We have some available, but it would be helpful if you bring your own to take your fruit home.
